Impact window replacement

Impact windows for Florida living.

Replace aging windows with impact-rated systems selected for your openings, home and priorities—without sorting through product terminology alone.

Why homeowners upgrade

More than storm protection.

Impact-rated products can combine hurricane readiness with everyday benefits. Exact performance varies by product, glass package and installation.

01

Storm readiness

Impact-rated assemblies are designed and tested for defined wind and debris-impact requirements.

02

Everyday comfort

Modern glass packages may improve solar-heat control and comfort compared with older inefficient windows.

03

Noise & security

Laminated glazing can help reduce outside sound and creates an additional physical barrier at the opening.

Compare carefully

Know exactly what you're comparing.

A detailed proposal should identify what is actually being installed—not just use the word “impact.”

Exact manufacturer & series
The proposal should identify the actual window system.
Product approval
Confirm impact status, allowable configurations, sizes, pressures and installation requirements.
Glass package
Compare laminated glazing, Low-E options and energy-performance values where applicable.
Installation scope
Know what removal, installation, fastening, sealing and finish work are included.

Impact-resistant doesn't mean unbreakable

Severe impact can crack laminated glass. The interlayer helps hold broken glass together, while the complete approved assembly is designed to resist the conditions for which it was tested.

Window styles

Impact systems are available in multiple configurations. The appropriate style depends on the opening, ventilation goals, aesthetics and approved product limits.

Florida approvals matter

Florida's Product Approval system can show whether a particular product is impact resistant and provide installation instructions and limits of use. Always verify the exact series and configuration.

Energy performance is separate

A window can be impact resistant without having the same energy performance as another impact window. Low-E coatings, U-factor and SHGC are separate specifications worth comparing.

Common questions

Before you choose.

These are starting points. Your exact opening, product approval and local requirements determine what applies to your home.

See all FAQs
Do impact windows eliminate the need to install shutters?

For an opening protected by an appropriately approved and installed impact-rated system, a separate shutter is generally not used over that same opening for hurricane protection. Project-specific requirements still apply.

Can I replace only some of my windows?

Many projects can be completed in phases. We can review the openings you want to prioritize and discuss options.

Can impact windows help with outside noise?

Laminated glazing and a better-sealed modern system may reduce outside sound, although results vary by product, glass configuration, building and noise source.
